Alyssa Poulsen

Animal Care Manager

From an early age, I felt a deep connection to animals. Growing up surrounded by dogs and even iguanas, I always knew animals were special—but it wasn’t until I came face to face with farmed animals that I began to truly understand the realities they endure. Meeting them in person opened my heart in a way nothing else had. When I look into their eyes, it feels as though I can see the pain they’ve been through, their resilience, and above all, their desire to live and be loved. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be part of their lives and to use my voice on their behalf.

Before finding this path, my greatest passion was art and music. And while that creative spark still lives within me, my deepest passion

now lies with the animals of Sage Mountain— and to the animals everywhere. There’s something profoundly moving about witnessing these animals heal, and about being part of a place where they are finally safe, seen, and free to just be. Every animal has a unique personality, and it is my greatest honor to be a part of their lives.

What makes Sage Mountain so special is that the healing goes both ways. It’s not just a sanctuary for animals, but for people too. I walk away each time with a deeper sense of connection, greater compassion, and a renewed awareness of what truly matters. I’m endlessly grateful to be part of this beautiful, transformative community—where love, respect, and second chances are at the heart of everything we do.
