Alec Brush

Animal Care Manager

Alec’s journey into animal advocacy began during his time in college, initially driven by his passion for environmental activism. Although Alec has always had a deep love for animals, his primary focus during that period was on environmental issues. “Spending time in nature has always been essential to me,” he shares. To further his commitment to protecting the environment, Alec spent a summer working with the Utah Conservation Corps (UCC), an AmeriCorps program focused on land conservation, education, and community service. “During that time, I wanted to do everything I could to help protect the environment. Water conservation was a major concern for many people in Utah, so I switched to a plant-based diet, realizing it was the most effective way for me to conserve as much water as possible.”

Alec’s path took a turn when he was introduced to Sage Mountain through a friend. After his first visit, he began volunteering regularly. “I immediately connected with the animals,” he recalls. “I also started to understand more about who they are and how they are treated in society. I grew up with several pets that I loved dearly, but I never considered how farmed animals lived compared to my pets. Not many people get the chance to meet a pig in a peaceful, supportive environment and truly get to know them. Sage Mountain gave me that opportunity. Once I began seeing them as individuals, I knew I wanted to help make Sage Mountain a safe and happy home for these animals.”

The experience at Sage Mountain profoundly changed Alec’s perspective on the world and reinforced his commitment to living a plant-based lifestyle.
